STUDY: Male Bottlenose Dolphins Engage In Extensive Bisexuality & Exclusive Homosexuality
Queerty reports:
Researchers in Western Australia have recently published a paper that details the very gay lives of male bottlenose dolphins.
According to Discovery News, the study found that, while male dolphins court females during the mating season, they often have longterm gay partners in the off-season (who says homosexuality is going to extinct our race?). The authors of the paper write:
- Male bottlenose dolphins also were found to engage in extensive bisexuality, combined with periods of exclusive homosexuality. Male pairs, or even trios, cooperate to sequester and herd individual females during the mating season. Most males are also members of second order alliances consisting of 4 to 14 males. Such relationships appear to be long lasting, with one known 7-member group still intact after 17 years.
- At first the researchers thought the dolphins lived somewhat like chimpanzees, since male bonding is strong, but in chimps can also lead to patrolling and defending community territory. But because of their open watery range, the Shark Bay dolphins may instead have ranges that overlap with those of other dolphins in the area.
- While dolphins can be aggressive, their “make love not war” lifestyle seems to be more peaceful than that of some other mammals, possibly even humans.
And lest we forget, male dolphins love to “make blowhole” with one another, too.
For those who still think being gay is unnatural.
Ellen DeGeneres Wins: Hate Group “One Million Moms” Concedes JC Penney Fight
The Advocate reports:
The group pushing to get Ellen DeGeneres fired from her job as a spokeswoman for JCPenney is giving up, according to an interview with a conservative website.
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation sent a celebratory news releasetoday with the headline, “You did it! ‘One Million Moms’ abandons call for Ellen to be fired.”
Monica Cole, director of the One Million Moms organization, which came up with the idea of boycotting JCPenney, tells OneNewsNow that it’s time to move on. Still, Cole claims to “have heard back from so many of our members” who say “they will no longer shop there … as long as Ellen DeGeneres is their spokesperson.”
DeGeneres was so offended by a group calling for her firing just for being gay that she actually called out the “haters” on her show. “This time I’d like to talk about it because my haters are my motivators,” she said.
Cole ignores the huge outcry of support that DeGeneres received online. Nearly 200,000 people joined an upstart Facebook group called “1 million people who support Ellen for JCPenney,” more than four times as many people who “like” One Million Moms.
GLAAD organized a Twitter campaign with the popular hashtag #StandUpForEllen and launched a website with the same name.
“Turns out ‘1 million’ antigay activists just can’t compare to the millions more — moms, dads, sons and daughters alike — who agree with JCPenney that no person should be fired simply for being gay,” said GLAAD spokesman Herndon Graddick. “As a result of this failed attempt to oust Ellen, more people than ever are now speaking out against the injustices faced by hardworking LGBT Americans in the workplace.”
GLAAD points out the people can still legally be fired for being being gay in 29 states. In 34 states there are no protections for transgender employees.
In the end, JCPenney sided with DeGeneres and debuted her string of new ads during the Academy Awards.
Obama Administration Says Defense Of Marriage Act Is Unconstitutional
The Huffington Post reports:
In a strongly worded legal brief, the Obama administration has said the federal act that defines marriage as being between a man and a woman was motivated by hostility toward gays and lesbians and is unconstitutional.
The brief was filed Friday in federal court in San Francisco in support of a lesbian federal employee’s lawsuit claiming the government wrongly denied health coverage to her same-sex spouse.
The Justice Department says Karen Golinski’s suit should not be dismissed because the law under which her spouse was denied benefits – the Defense of Marriage Act – violates the constitution’s guarantee of equal protection.
“The official legislative record makes plain that DOMA Section 3 was motivated in large part by animus toward gay and lesbian individuals and their intimate relationships, and Congress identified no other interest that is materially advanced by Section 3,” the brief reads, referring to the section in the act that defines marriage as being between a man and a woman.
Though the administration has previously said it will not defend the marriage act, the brief is the first court filing in which it urges the court to find the law unconstitutional, said Tobias Barrington Wolff, a law professor at the University of Pennsylvania.
“This brief represents the concrete manifestation of a complete paradigm shift in the federal government’s position on anti-gay discrimination and the constitutional rights of married same-sex couples,” Wolff said in a phone interview Saturday.
The brief argues that gays and lesbians have been subject to a history of discrimination by federal, state and local governments and private parties. It also lays out the administration’s position that sexual orientation is an “immutable characteristic,” that gays and lesbians are minorities with limited political power and that sexual orientation has no bearing on someone’s ability to contribute to society and advances no legitimate policy interest.
“It’s quite powerful to have the administration saying in a court filing that this kind of discrimination should be viewed suspiciously,” said Tara Borelli, an attorney for Golinski.
Attorneys for a U.S. House of Representatives group that has stepped in to defend the marriage act’s constitutionality in the Golinski case did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
In court filings, they have said that multiple courts have relied on Congress’s justifications for enacting the law to uphold its constitutionality.
Golinski is a 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals lawyer. She sued the U.S. Office of Personnel Management last year for not authorizing family health coverage for her same-sex spouse.
Her attorneys are now seeking summary judgment in her favor.
Ugh, just read through NOM’s talking points. Not one fact listed as to why LGBT shouldn’t marry. They say that same sex marriage would redefine marriage for everyone. Yeah, redefine it to make it more inclusive! It seems that a group that has such reverence for marriage would want to spread the love around! What a hateful waste of these people lives!
Their main point is that marriage is for reproduction and that a gay couple can’t provide the dual gender role models that kids need. Of course, there is absolutely no evidence of this and all studies point to the OPPOSITE! LGBT parents are no worse or better than their hetero counterparts.
Maybe if we talk to these people more and show them the facts and who we are they might stop all this hateful crap?
Sadly enough I don’t think I have many LGBT role models. But there was in interview with Ellen Degeneres that I read a couple of years ago, and one of her quotes really stuck with me.
It’s our challenges and obstacles that give us layers of depth and make us interesting. Are they fun when they happen? No. But they are what make us unique.
Regardless of her orientation, this is a wonderful piece of wisdom. But the fact that she’s gay makes me believe it that much more.
